Five top products to help minimise the risk of injury at a children's playground
Children’s playgrounds need to be safe first and foremost, so here
we take a look at the top five products that help keep children injury-free in
their designated play areas.
Silver Play Sand
Many types of sand are not suitable for children’s play areas as it is purposefully manufactured to be rough and gritty, but Silver Play Sand is perfect for playgrounds. The soft sand particles of the Silver Play Sand are very fine and smoothly rounded, with this product available in a variety of bulk buy options through Springbridge. This means children can play in and interact with the soft sand without fear of abrasion or irritants as it is made of almost pure silica and is free from irons and contaminants.
Schools often use silver sand for long jump pits, while many local authorities choose it when constructing artificial beaches. Our safe play sand can also be used for ponds, pond baskets and aquariums not only because of its fineness but also its purity and pleasing colour.
For larger areas you can buy silver soft sand in level-filled bulk
bags measuring 750mm x 850mm x 950mm. For smaller areas or to simply top-up
larger sand pits, you can buy sand in level-filled mini bulk bags measuring
700mm x 700mm x 750mm.
Pine Play Grade Bark
A great product for spreading over large areas that are not sand pits is Pine Play Bark, which is a high quality pine bark product ideal for use in children’s public playgrounds as well as for domestic play areas. Not only is it safe for children to play on thanks to its impact-absorbing properties, but the pleasing aesthetic of the natural-looking bark helps keep gardens and public parks attractive without sacrificing the children’s dedicated play area.
The fire-certified Pine Play Bark (BS EN 4790: 1997) available through Springbridge consists of bark pieces measuring between 15 and 35mm which make it a suitable product for a wide range of applications other than for children’s play areas, including as a natural ground cover or mulch for flower beds and borders.
Available in bulk or mini bulk bags, you can choose how much you
need whether it is for a large area or small area, or just to top-up an
existing bark-covered space.
10mm Shingle
Everybody loves that familiar scrunchy sound walking on shingle
makes, so it is an excellent product for use around certain areas of a
children’s playground. It is a cost-effective method of covering a large area
of ground, so our 10mm shingle is ideal for creating
pathways or segregated areas.
20mm Shingle
The shingle available through Springbridge also comes in a larger
size where it is screened to consist of shingle measuring 20mm. This can also
be used for play areas, though is most often used for the likes of driveways.
Ballast for Playground Construction
Many children’s play areas will require some kind of fencing, so
we also have a ballast product which is ideal for use in concreting
applications such as fence-posting and the creation of solid pathways. While
not for general use in children’s play areas, its purpose as a vital concrete
ingredient makes ballast a very useful aggregate in the construction of safe
playgrounds.
If you require products such as soft sand, shingle or ballast for
a children’s playground or any other landscaping or gardening project, then contact Springbridge via our website or call
